Crop Night

Today is a scrapbooking day for me. I decided after missing crops with friends I would see if we could have one at church. So guess who is leading it?? LOL! Of course you know the answer to that one. So until I have some fun pages to share I thought I would share three things.



My favorite scrapbooking blog and inspiration is Ali Edwards. She is full of ideas and I love her approach to scrapbooking very simple "tell your story". I guess it kinda fits in with my style the best. Check her out!

My Boy

I'd like to introduce you to the cutest little boy. His name is Robert and he is 7 years old. When I was going to have children I gave little thought to wanting a son. I always wanted them to be healthy. However, having him has been the greatest joy of my life. He is the best kid. Those of you with boys know that little boys have a special place in their mother's heart. Naturally, he is all boy and into everything especially anything that moves cars, trucks and loves games. He has taught me so much. I enjoy him in a way I thought I never could. Today, he is home with me and feeling under the weather a little bit. We played a game of chess and of course me not knowing how to play he beat me. I have discovered though that's what moms are for.

Auction Makeovers

My little prim goodies from the other day

Hope everyone had a great day! I started the day off with bible study with my dear friend, Wanda. She is such a wonderful person. She has been leading this bible study for 25 years. It brings me such joy to be able to cheer the people up at the nursing home with her each week. I don't always make it with my subbing schedule but this week it worked great.

I had time between everything to put a few coats of paint on my red basket. Before it was a light red with a few different colors on each side. I painted it Old Century New England red and used an antique brown over top. I may go over it again but I thought it turned out pretty good. Now, I need to find a place for it. Although I think it will be great to carry square casserole dishes in for church or crackers and rolls to serve at dinner. The other larger basket I just put a few coats of the antiquing stain on because I really liked the base color anyway so I just darkened it up a little bit.

Lamp Before and After

Today I didn't get everything done I wanted to do but I thought I would post some today and some more tomorrow. First I painted the shade and decided to just leave it black for now. I sanded the edges just a bit. Not sure if I should leave it or attempt a stencil?? Any ideas for me? My DH glued the crock and it doesn't look too bad. It actually shows up in the pictures more than in person. I moved this little table to a dark corner in my family room. It used to be by the front door and it just sort of sat there...you know what I mean. Something about it didn't look right to me. I guess it's small and just needs a nook to sit into that makes it look complete. Sorry about the dark pictures but I had to wait for everything to dry. Plus, tonight I my busy night teaching Turbo and Pilates back to back. It was fun though! I'll show you my baskets tomorrow.

My little nook with the brown crock, and made over lamp. The little red bench was a project too. It was just unfinished and I've had it done for awhile so I was looking for something to put it on and this seemed perfect.

Auction Day

Today we loaded up in the SUV and went to Pinkneyville for an auction. We lived in MO for 10 years and found some pretty good deals. I got a few things that I will need to makeover. On some of the items I got some great deals. The grey graniteware was a good deal for $3. We spent twenty dollars on everything and I didn't even take pictures of all of it. Some of it went in the trash. We will sell some when we have a garage sale. Afterwards we went to the White Rabbit Antique Mall and much to my surprise I found a prim booth with some treasures. Everything but the bread basket came from there. The candle smells so yummy and I can't wait to burn it. Hopefully, next week I will show you some of the makeovers. I plan on painting the santa lamp. Any ideas for what to put on the shade? It's made of wood. The baskets I plan on painting too.

Here's the basket I will probably paint and the santa lamp. It has a cute little accent light inside and it works. I even got some Pilates bands for $1. Yeah!

A great brown crock for $1 but it did crack a in a big spot as my dh washed it up for me. He's going to try and glue it back for me.

My primitive finds bread basket at a little shop on main street 1/2 off. The rest of it came from a booth at the White Rabbit. The crows are little tarts that smell like cinnamon apple.

Yeah for Christina!

I want to introduce some of you to my daughter, Christina. She is nine years old and in the third grade. I have two children and she is the oldest. I feel very lucky and blessed to have both a boy and girl. At her school they do AR reading. This program allows them to read books on their level not necessarily the same grade so that they can excel in reading. She just finished reading the first Harry Potter book all by herself. Her reading level is around the end of 5th grade now. She attends a pretty small school but out of grades 3-6 she was the top reader point wise last week. I'm so proud of her for this recognition. I have always read to her and encouraged reading so this was a great honor. Yeah Christina!

KM Primitives

Hello, I want to share a little bit about Karen Martinson from kmprimitives. http://www.kmprimitives.com/pages/main.php She was recently featured in Country Sampler. I received my order from her a few weeks ago and noticed my free candle hugger was missing from the package. I had forgot to order it from her website when I placed my order. I emailed her right away and she said no problem and that she was swamped with orders from all the publicity in the magazine. I said no problem I can wait a while. Within a few days my candle hugger was in my mailbox. Everything I got was carefully wrapped up and she does such a nice job. Thanks Karen for making my day! Oh and thanks Janae for blogging about your order which really convinced me I needed to order something too!

Spice Shelf Makeover

Hello, I just wanted to share a quick before and after of a little spice drawer that I made over. I had been looking at this for awhile now and thinking I should paint it. I bought it at a craft show many years ago and it's oak but I just wanted something more prim. I just sanded it and painted it black, then rubbed on a few layers of old century New England red and wiped it off gently. I thought it turned out great. I even painted the old knobs. They were made of wood too so it was a pretty easy job. Ok, eventually I will get this blog thing figured out I should have posted the picture I wanted first, last and vice versa. You get the idea the bottom picture is the before, then the after, then in my little corner in the kitchen. Hope you like it!

It's me, I'm blogging!

Hello, I'm finally blogging! Yipee! I feel like a kid learning to ride a bike for the first time. This blog is going to be a little bit of everything. First, I would like to introduce myself a little bit. I was born in Indiana so I'm a midwest girl. I married an Air Force Man when I was young and we've been on the move ever since. He will be retiring soon and I hope to find a place to call our own. I love being a mom, my kids mean the world to me. My first love is teaching. I taught for 6 years and have stayed home with my kids part time for the last five years. I substitute at their school now. I also teach Turbo Kick and Pilates classes in the evenings. I would love my friends and family to stop by and catch up with us. I also hope to share a little bit of my life with all my online buddies. Hopefully, I will be posting some pictures soon of some of the projects I have going on at my house. I love decorating my house for each season. I've been busy working on making over some of my old things by painting them or finding a new purpose for them. I hope to share some of those pictures soon. Also, I will be hosting a crop soon at our church next week so I will be discussing some scrapbooking things too. Last but not least I am going to be posting about recipes I try and new cookbooks I have purchased. I really enjoy Italian cooking but I love baking the most.
