4th of July Home

Here's a few things I've done around my home to make it festive for the 4th of July!  I love July for two reasons, well maybe three, Our country's birthday, my birthday and my hubby's!  Hip hip Hooray!! :)

Here's how my mantle looks in the family room.  The little star holders look so neat lit up at night!

my coffee table, I love the cherry gingham candles at Bath and Body Works

the top of my entertainment center

So this was my family room, I'll be back to share other rooms soon!

Also, I just wanted to let all of you know I've been visiting your blogs but I've had major issues with Google and blogger, it has me re-enter my password and won't let me comment.  If anyone knows how to fix it I would love to know.  I've already reset it once. I do love reading everyone's blogs and I just can't seem to comment right now.

Blessings,

Carey

Hillbilly Spaghetti Pie

Hello, summer is so busy!  Between teaching, swimming, kids and cleaning it's been rough to blog.  My husband is doing a temporary job so he is gone all the time now. I wanted to share a quick recipe I got from Aunt Ruthie, love her :) I just love one pot meals don't you??  If you like spaghetti and Italian food give it a try!

Hillbilly Spaghetti Pie

This is what is looks like cookin' scrumptious, great leftover too!  I used turkey and turkey sausage to cut down on some of the fat.

This is great if you have green onions or basil, parsly from your garden!

I have decorated my home for the 4th of July! I can't wait to show you I'll be back soon.

Fresh Strawberry Pie

Today I'm making crusts for this delicious pie.  We are having a pitch-in at church for our pastor.  He is retiring.  I think this is perfect.  My strawberries are coming on and they are pretty small this year.  I guess it's all the rain.  This recipe uses both fresh and frozen strawberries.  Here's the link for the recipe from a previous post.  I really enjoy the Cook's Country shows and magazine.  There are no ads and they explain so much about how the recipe works.

Blessings,

Vintage Kitchen Decorating & Family

Hello, bloggers!  It seems that I have gotten busier not working for the past few weeks?? I guess it's that crazy time of year.  My children are out of school now.  We just finished up dance recitals and awards programs this week.  It was so neat to see my girl up on stage.  She did a great job! I'm proud of her.  Also, she finished up testing and will be in Excel next year for sixth grade.  I knew she should be in this program.  My son's first year was last year.  It's been more challenging for him, but I feel in a good way.  They do things with the older grade and a faster pace.  My son did some reading and science with the 4th grade class this year.  It's been good for him.  I'm glad that she will be in it too since it's difficult for one to be in and the other not.  She is able to read on a 8.6 reading level.  Not to mention she is a terrific writer.  Math may be a bit of a challenge for her but I think it will be worth it.

I've been inspired by the new and improved  Better Homes and Garden's Website.  Tommorrow I will go see my beloved Aunt P. who had to downsize unfortunately due to her mobility.  She is now in a Nursing Home.  She wants me to have her quilt and a few of her things.  I'm hoping to be able to use it in my guest room. I love her and treasure her.  It's hard to see her there.  I try to visit her often to cheer her up the best I can.  I love when she tells me stories from her childhood and my mom.  I used to go to work with her when I was little at the Coke factory.  Nothing better than Coke in a bottle.  She also knew how to set a table.  The woman was a great hostess.  When I used to go to her apartment for lunch, at 91 she still wanted me to set the table for sub sandwiches.  I love that about her!  They broke the mold with her that's for sure.  She is still sharp as a tack too!

I love the crispness of the white contrasted with the blue, red and white checked!

I just love all the jars of homemade goodies in the cupboard.  Did you get your garden planted?  We finally did!  My strawberries are coming on too, I'll share more with you later on that.

Wouldn't you just love to eat on this porch?

I really love the hydrangeas in this picture.  Can anyone give me a resource for them?  I look in gardening places and I only see the white ones.

Great storage idea!

Hope you're having a splendid weekend,
Enjoy!
