Hoosier Make-over

Instead of coming home to collapse for my afternoon Sunday nap I felt industrious. Yikes, did I just admit that...oops!  Anyway, I have wanted to paint this since I purchased it a few years ago.  It used to be dingy and a creamy dirt color on the inside.  I wanted clean and white but I wanted to keep the great color of the wood.

I used Clean White like I did in my Laundry Room

I picked up the runner during the big 40 garage sale.  I bought a sack full of vintage kitchen linens for $5. :)

I have to tell you a funny story about why my sign reads, Aunt Opal's Homemade Pies.  I did a week of VBS skits a few weeks ago and I played the part of a farm wife who ended up with a blue ribbon at the county fair.  I laughed so much that week and the kids seemed to really enjoy it.  We talked about the Fruits of the Spirit and how we have to use this daily in life (love, patience, kindness and joy)  I took a little piece of that away with me and this sign makes me smile and remember this time, fondly :) I guess we all have a little Aunt Opal in us!

So what do you think?  I'd love to know what make over projects you are working on?

  1. Looks great Carey. I really like the white and it really showcases all your lovely collection. I also really like that crock sitting to the left of hoosier. I always see those at the monthly antique fair, but they're a little pricey.

The 'Aunt Opal's blackboard is too cute! What a great memory!
Love all of you antique kitchen gadgets. A country cook can't have enough of them!
